M48 DAY 29 Recap: Tuscaloosa, ALABAMA – Olympic Lifting

Yesterday was a low day. Today was a revival day.

As soon as we got to Crossfit Tuscaloosa I saw familiar faces pop out of the gym door. There was one young girl and a mom that I know from the gym back home. I ran to them and gave them the biggest hug. It felt amazing to see familiar faces again. I was pretty excited because the event was olympic lifting and I was able to throw around a barbell again. As we were warming up a couple came up to me asking if I was the one having the event. I said, “YES!” They said they’ve never Olympic lifted before, but saw the event on Eventbrite and decided to join.

I looked at the one woman and said, “Are you doing this too?!”

She replied, “No. I’ve never done this before.”

I cracked a smile and said, “Great, well I’ll teach you and you’ll have an amazing first day.”

As we were warming up I showed her how to snatch and she picked it up pretty well. We started with a 10 minute time cap to find a max on snatch. The woman went and she ended up CRUSHING her snatch for it being the first time.

After, the next wave of athletes went, which included me, and I hit a massive PR on snatch that I’ve been chasing for 1+ years – 135lbs baby (here’s my post on Instagram about the lift)! I was riding high on the energy and momentum from everyone.

Then, we all went on clean and jerk.

The woman started her clean and jerks. She finished with completing over 100+ lbs on clean and jerk, which is not too shabby for starting.

The excitement in her eyes and feeling of her being proud of herself made my entire day.

From then on my heart and mind felt revived with Mission48. She reminded me why I’m doing what I’m doing and was that little nudge to keep going.

Massive thank you to Crossfit Tuscaloosa for such a great day.

We are officially at 85 girls funded for Ruling Our eXperiences that has 20-week programs in schools for young girls to build their confidence, teach them self defense, and learn how to be a true leader in today’s world. They change the trajectory of their entire lives when they build strong, confident young girls. I’m pushing my body and mind to the limit because I believe in it so strongly. Please continue to share this with family and friends so we can build up the next generation of strong women!
