I was not expecting a call for an ambulance today.
We had a mountain biking event. The weather was cold and nasty out, but we got the “okay” from the store that the event was still a go!
There were 15+ people that traveled up for this event and we all went out on the course together. We split off in groups from the experienced riders to the beginners. I chose the beginners because I still feel a like a baby giraffe on a bike at times.
The ride was going well and we were almost finished. Some went back to the shop and others took the long way there. I split off to go the long way back. Little did I know about 1/4 mile later that the day was going to turn.
We made a pretty simple turn around a corner. Suddenly I saw Jared say, “I need Jensen, there’s someone that dislocated his ankle.” We jumped off our bikes and ran up to where he fell. We found him seething in pain with an ankle that was upside down. We remained calm as some found sticks to help Jensen splint his leg while others called 911. Within 5 minutes, he was on a stretcher in the middle of the woods and carried out on an ATV to get him to the hospital. He seemed to be in good spirits considering the condition, but we safely rode back to the bike shop.
The people at the bike shop and leaders of the event were incredible. I can’t thank them enough for their experience during that scenario. That event was wild. I ended up texting him and he said he broke his leg in 3 places and dislocated it – CRAZY!
Massive thank you to Brandywine Bikes for hosting us and having the event. Ya’ll are awesome.
We are officially at 108 girls funded for Ruling Our eXperiences that has 20-week programs in schools for young girls to build their confidence, teach them self defense, and learn how to be a true leader in today’s world. They change the trajectory of their entire lives when they build strong, confident young girls. I’m pushing my body and mind to the limit because I believe in it so strongly. Please continue to share this with family and friends so we can build up the next generation of strong women!
